Proof in the Process - Rewaxed the Oily Jack way

At Oily Jack England, we’ve set a new standard in re-waxing. Our exclusive two-part process combines time-honoured craft with modern precision, ensuring every jacket receives a finish that performs season after season.

Part One: The Foundation

The first stage is about coverage. Here, we apply even heat across the entire jacket, allowing the wax to spread smoothly and settle into every fibre. This creates a consistent base layer — the essential foundation of long-lasting weather protection.

Part Two: The Detail

Once the foundation is set, we move to a dedicated station designed for precision work. Using specialised tools and controlled heat, we focus on high-wear areas — seams, shoulders, cuffs, and pockets. This detailing ensures the wax is not only evenly absorbed but reinforced exactly where the jacket needs it most.

By separating the process into these two stages, we combine the best of heritage methods with modern refinement. It’s the difference between a jacket that’s simply rewaxed, and one that’s proofed to perform.

Aftercare

Proper aftercare will extend the life of your rewaxed or repaired jacket and keep it performing at its best. The good news: waxed cotton is designed to be used, repaired and rewaxed — not replaced.

Hang your jacket to dry naturally if it gets wet

Avoid direct heat sources (radiators, tumble dryers, fires)

Store it in a cool, dry, ventilated space

Avoid long-term compression or folding

Brush off dried mud rather than washing

Rewaxing frequency

Most jackets benefit from rewaxing every:

12–24 months with regular outdoor use

2–3 years with light use

High-wear areas such as elbows, cuffs and shoulders may need attention sooner.

Typical turnaround times

Rewaxing: 1–3 weeks

Repairs: 2–4 weeks (depending on complexity)

Cleaning & odour removal: 2-3 weeks

If your jacket requires multiple services (for example, cleaning + repairs + rewaxing), it may take slightly longer.

Busy periods

Our busiest times of year are:

Autumn

Winter

Spring

Rewaxing: 2–4 weeks

Repairs: 4-6 weeks (depending on complexity)
