I sent off my 30 year old Barbour Northumbria for the enzyme wash and re-wax and while it was already in great condition for its age, it did smell quite 'fusty" I tried all sorts of methods at home but had no luck. Yet when my jacket came back from it's going over at Oily Jack I was absolutely gob smacked, I couldn't believe how good it looked, and no smell! It's literally like a brand new jacket! I will absolutely be using you guys again and will be recommending you to anyone who needs a similar service! Thank you so much!

A vintage wax jacket is a precious thing & can only be original once. I wear my jackets regularly so when they need cleaning or repair it must be executed in a way that maintains & enhances this originality. This is why I put my trust in Ashley at Oily Jack when I wanted my rare red 1970’s Belstaff Trialmaster Professional cleaned & re-waxed. The jacket was dirty, greasy & smelly from decades of use & needed some TLC to turn it back into a daily wearer. What I liked about Ashley & Oily Jack is that the process is considered & careful. First off, I sent some photos & we discussed on the phone. I wanted the black dialled down & the red dialled up. Ashley was obviously very knowledgeable & passionate about what he does. He explained what was possible & realistic. I felt confident to proceed. On receipt of the jacket Ashley took his time to carefully consider his approach. It would be easy to overdo it & lose that originality. He settled on a particular botanical laundry detergent that he sourced specifically for this job. The skill here is to clean the jacket but without the red running into the beige lining. He doesn’t rush but proceeds in considered steps, assessing the result at each stage & closing in on the objective. The results were miraculous. The red colour is dialled up & evenly spread, the lining is unmarked, the re-wax is subtle & consistent, the cotton is supple & the jacket smells fresh. All the originality & essence of the jacket is maintained & enhanced, but it is now ready for regular wear again. This is a craftsman at work. Work that is carried out with reverence.
